Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. The Alpha course meets once per week for about ten weeks. At each session, people enjoy great food, laughter, and learning in an atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or out of bounds – questions like: Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?
We have held a number of Alpha courses here at Holy Comforter. We do not currently have one scheduled. However, you can likely find one in your area by going here.
What happens at Alpha?
People come together over a light meal and refreshments to discuss the big questions. Each evening includes a presentation on a topic related to the meaning of life, exploring questions about God, Jesus, and the purpose of our lives. After each talk there is time for people to discuss, ask questions, raise challenges, and share whatever else is on their hearts and minds. Alpha is a place where all people are treated with dignity and respect. It’s great for those who are exploring ideas of faith, those who are committed Christians who want to know more about their faith, and even for those who are not Christians at all.
There is also a one day optional weekend retreat for those who want to learn and explore even more.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Alpha is free. You are welcome to make a donation towards covering the cost of food, but no donation is required.
Do I need to attend every session?
Come for one week or all ten weeks. You make the decision. If you’re not sure, feel free to come to our Alpha Preview Night on September 21 just to try things out.
Will there be childcare?
Yes! Childcare will be available at every session and food will be available for your children as well. Just let us know when you register how many children you’ll be bringing and their ages.
How do I sign up?
You can fill out this registration form and email it to us as an attachment or mail it to Church of the Holy Comforter, 1000 Burmont Rd, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. You can also feel free to come to the Alpha Preview Night even if you haven’t registered, but we do appreciate you registering because it helps us to know how much food to prepare.
